Truffle Heaven in the Southern Highlands
What we loved: gorgeous intimate setting at the trufflery. Small group of like minded people. Hot and generous 3 course comfort food truffle focused menu for lunch, complete with decorated tables. Interesting assortment of local wines to accompany the meal. Truffle games with a prize. The hosts were informative, friendly and welcoming as this trufflery is also located at their residence. Its a shame it was raining as we were told lunch normally takes place under open sky in the trufflery. The wet weather option was inside the shed which was still good especially with the 3 open log burning fires on the go.
Things for next time to consider: As it was raining we were advised to bring layers and a rain coat but you really needed gum boots rather than normal walking boots given the amount of water. We had lunch with wet cold feet, but we got spot close to the open fire which helped offset the cold. The directions to the trufflery were confusing on the email, however if you ignore this and put the address directly into your car navigation or Google maps you will be fine. Toilets were located only inside the house the owners house. Might be a consideration to build some guest toilets adjacent to the homestead so people don’t have to invade their space.
Wonderful short jaunt (left Sydney at 8am – got there about 10am for 10:15am start and home to Sydney by 4pm) for food and southern highlands lovers. We are looking forward to seeing what other food adventures we can join later in the year
